Synectic’s team members (affectionately known as #teamsynectic) are located around Tasmania in our Devonport, Launceston and Hobart offices. We work in specialist areas to provide you with industry leading knowledge and experience. However, we each build a breadth of experience and maintain an understanding across our business units. This allows us to work cooperatively with a full understanding of your needs.

Gareth began his career at Synectic as a Trainee Accountant in 1991, becoming a Director in 2005. Gareth has over 25 years’ experience in business and corporate advisory services and is an experienced board member.

Based in our Devonport office, he has been at the forefront of growing our firm, including overseeing our state-wide expansion. He has steered the development of our self-managed super fund and financial services divisions, and has been integral to our ongoing commitment to audit as a core service.

Gareth ensures we are always at the leading edge of our profession with knowledge, skills and resources that set us apart from other firms of our size. He is valued for his personal investment in building strong relationships with both staff and clients.

A proud husband, father of three and Tigers tragic, Gareth and his family enjoy heading out in the caravan and snow skiing. He also enjoys cycling, having ridden at an international level in his younger days.

Ben joined Synectic as a Director in 2013 to head up our audit division and our Launceston office. With over 25 years’ experience in audit, financial reporting, superannuation and corporate advisory services, he brings a passion for client service and the benefits that come from high quality service.

Ben is a past Tasmanian Regional Chairman for CAANZ and remains heavily involved with CAANZ, participating in the development and direction of our profession. He is also an experienced board member and chairs a number of audit panels in the local government sector.

Ben sees audit as not just a compliance obligation but a valuable tool for driving optimum results. He believes in pragmatic, relevant advice that helps clients improve their operations, governance and internal controls. His enthusiasm for the benefits of audit has earned him a loyal client base and a like-minded team.

Ben is a board member of St Giles Society Inc, helping to support people with a wide range of needs. He enjoys time with his wife and two children, fishing, and getting back to the family farm.

Matt has a passion for helping people clearly understand their options and identify and achieve their personal, family and business goals.

He has worked in the financial services industry for 20 years and holds the industry’s highest certification. He has been on the Top 50 Financial Advisers in Australia list seven times.

Matt was a Private Client Adviser with Shadforth Financial Group for 17 years, during which time he worked closely with Synectic as an external adviser to many of our clients. He joined Synectic in 2017 and became a director in 2018.

Matt’s qualifications in Accounting and Financial Planning position him well to work intelligently with the accountants, tax specialists and business advisers at Synectic, putting him in a great position to deliver holistic advice.

Matt enjoys spending time with his three young boys and playing competitive squash. He volunteers on the Devonport Squash Committee and is a board member for Devonport Child Care Centre

Lynette Broomby

Lynette has almost 30 years’ business services, taxation and audit experience with a strong focus on the agriculture, manufacturing, construction, and not-for-profit sectors. An experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO), she specialises in management accounting, strategic and system development solutions. She has provided contract services to some of Tasmania’s largest companies and held senior financial management roles, including CFO of a public listed company. An experienced board member, Lynette is currently a director of Eskleigh Foundation and Winkleigh Farm, her family’s commercial piggery operation. As a rural specialist, she enjoys working both on-farm and remotely to support farmers to increase growth and profitability. Lynette has a strategic focus, enjoys a challenge, and is outcome focused even when faced with limited resources.

Danny joined our Launceston office in early 2015, adding his experience in multi-national and small local firms to our team. With a special interest in technology, Danny enjoys assisting clients to obtain quality management information from their business systems. Danny enjoys time outdoors with his Labrador, travelling, cooking (and eating!), and is currently renovating his house.

The highlights of her role are spending time with clients and working within the ever changing landscape of the business environment. Cath values respect and awareness of individual values, needs and preferences as key to achieving positive outcomes. She supports her local community by volunteering at the Burnie Red Cross shop, and enjoys travel and cooking (well, more eating really!)

Linda has over 20 years’ accounting experience, including seven years in private enterprise. She manages a diverse range of clients - including high net worth individuals and small to medium enterprises - and assists in all areas of taxation, accounting and business advisory services. She prides herself on being available to support her clients whenever they need guidance and advice. Linda volunteers her time on not-for-profits’ boards and assisting sporting clubs in various roles. She enjoys keeping fit and playing sport, particularly basketball. She and her husband regularly travel to visit her daughter who is playing college basketball in the United States. She is also studying for a Graduate Diploma in Applied Tax Law with the Taxation Institute of Australia.

Ian began his career in 1973. He has been involved with the history of our firm since 1982, initially working for Atkinson Gibson which later restructured as Synectic. He also enjoys motorsports, Sunday drives in his MG and time with family.

Kurtis had several years of experience in both multi-national and small local firms prior to joining Synectic in 2012. A new father, he enjoys snowboarding and travel (preferably combined!), karate and relaxing with family and friends.

Vaughn began his career with a small local firm in 2004 and joined Synectic in 2009. He services a wide range of clients and holds particular experience in the building and construction, agriculture, aquaculture, legal and consultancy industries. Vaughn has a diverse skill set, including financial reporting, cloud accounting, taxation, audit and business advisory services. Vaughn is a board member for the Tim Blair Run for Kids Foundation, helping raise funds for childhood cancer. He enjoys a wide variety of sports and spending time with his wife and young children.

Mother to two young-adult boys, Fiona spends much of her spare time volunteering in the local community and bush walking.

Steph is a bright and giving member of our team and the driving force behind #teamsynectic’s social club and various charity activities. She also enjoys a range of crafts, cooking and spending time in the garden.

She has previous experience in retail, administration and customer service. Tiffany relishes challenges, as demonstrated by her undertaking of the Chartered Accountants Program. She enjoys travel and good food (especially when combined!), a good book and a well made cup of tea.

Gabbi started with Synectic in 2016 as an undergraduate accountant, completing her degree later that year, and is now undertaking the Chartered Accountants program. She had previously gained 5 years’ experience in customer service, was on The Deans Role of Excellence 2014, a Member of the Golden Key Honour Society and Student Ambassador CPA Australia. Gabbi began her career with Synectic specialising in self-managed super funds and is now gaining further experience in accounting, business advice and audit.

Sharni started with Synectic‘s growing audit team as an Undergrauate Auditor in mid-2017. She has over nine years’ experience in customer service roles and has now completed her Bachelor degree, majoring in accounting and finance. Highly motivated, Sharni is now gaining experience in tax and accounting. Sharni was drawn to this profession due to the rapport building nature of the role and the opportunities it presents to get up close and assist businesses. She likes discovering Tasmania, spending time with her partner and two cats, and reading a novel.

Ambitious and curious by nature, Luke is looking forward to developing his industry knowledge and experience at Synectic.

Laura was awarded the University of Tasmania (UTas) 2015 Synectic “Scholarship in Business” award which resulted work experience at our Devonport office in 2016. She has since joined us part-time while completing her last year of university in Hobart. Laura is experiencing opportunities in self-managed super fund administration as well as accounting and taxation. She brings with her both excellent academic achievements and experience in local government, hospitality and farming. Laura was the recipient of the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TCCI) prize for academic excellence in Taxation in 2016. She enjoys hiking, running and reading.

Kristy began her career with us in 2006 after working in human resources and recruitment in both the public and private sectors. She has worked across various departments in her time with Synectic and now specialises in audit and assurance. Kristy has over eight years’ experience in audit and possesses strong skills in financial reporting and accounting standards. Kristy serves as Treasurer of her local church group. With a young family, and currently undertaking the Chartered Accountants program, Kristy has little spare time but does enjoy gardening, participation in Devonport Park Run, and cooking (sometimes she even treats #teamsynectic to her home-baked delights!).

Phillip joined Synectic in 2013. With 25 years of audit experience gained in two well-established Launceston accounting firms, he has also worked privately for more than 10 years. Phillip specialises in the audit of not-for-profit organisations, self managed super funds and trust accounts. He enjoys time with family, travelling and sport. He also has a love of the quieter pursuits of photography, reading, gardening and cooking.

Currently undertaking the Chartered Accountants program, Scott joined us in 2014 while completing his degree. Scott is interested in history and architecture, reading for knowledge acquisition and is a talented musician who plays piano, saxophone and violin.

Curtis joined Synectic in January 2017, however we have worked extensively together over many years. He has over 25 years’ experience in the financial services industry, including the last three years running his own business. Prior to that he was a Private Client Adviser for over 20 years.

Specialising in the provision of investment and financial planning advice for retirees, pre-retirement investors and other direct investors, Curtis has a focus on direct investment strategies to help you achieve your financial objectives. He also provides the full range of strategic financial and risk advice covering retirement, superannuation, estate planning, personal insurance and Centrelink planning.

Married with two daughters and a son, Curtis has a keen sense of humour (a must when investment markets are not co-operating!). Outside of family Curtis enjoys reading, history, music and bike riding.

With a history in audit, taxation and office management, Kerrie joined Synectic’s self-managed superannuation fund team in 2010. Kerrie is passionate about helping our clients grow their funds. She manages our Hobart office and is an invaluable staff mentor, responsible for training many of our undergraduate accountants in the SMSF role. A wife and mother of four children, Kerrie is kept busy with family activities. She has spent time volunteering at her children’s school and acted as treasurer on the school committee.

A highly committed family person, Kim is passionate about learning new skills and assisting others both inside and outside work.

She now holds responsibility for our office accounting and management and leads our dynamic administration team. Naomi is a finance committee member for Our Lady of Lourdes School Association. She finds parenting extremely rewarding and enjoys time with her husband and three children.

She relocated for study and family, but was supported to work remotely for many years until our Launceston office opened in 2013. In her current role she focuses on the growth of our business, as well as the implementation of new technologies and best practices that support great client outcomes. Suze has a passion for travel and trekking. She enjoys camping and kayaking around Tasmania with her teenage son and extended family.

She enjoys travelling and camping with her husband and children, and socialising with her friends and “unreasonably large” extended family. She also gains great satisfaction from occasionally beating Kristy in the #teamsynectic Devonport Park Run!

Bianca was previously with our firm for eight years as an Administration Assistant. She has since worked as a bookkeeper and spent time in her family business before re-joining Synectic in 2016. Bianca is an experienced client-services assistant, helping our teams to meet our clients’ needs. She also supports our practice administration team. With her prior experience with our firm Bianca is a familiar, friendly face to many of our staff and clients.

Olivia Michajlow

Choosing a career change from hairdressing, Olivia joined Synectic as our receptionist in 2010. Her role has grown as she has embraced responsibility for the daily administration of the firm while continuing to bring her vibrancy to our phones and front desk. With an ongoing involvement in the Latrobe Football Club (as Ambassador in 2011-12), Olivia also enjoys a variety of water sports and the odd quiet moment of reading.
