Gareth began his career at Synectic as a Trainee Accountant in 1991, becoming a Director in 2005. Gareth has over 30 years’ experience in business and corporate advisory services and is an experienced board member.

Based in our Devonport office, he has been at the forefront of growing our firm, including overseeing our state-wide expansion. He has steered the development of our self-managed super fund and financial services divisions, and has been integral to our ongoing commitment to audit as a core service.

Gareth ensures we are always at the leading edge of our profession with knowledge, skills and resources that set us apart from other firms of our size. He is valued for his personal investment in building strong relationships with both staff and clients.

A proud husband, father of three and Tigers tragic, Gareth and his family enjoy heading out in the caravan and snow skiing. He also enjoys cycling, having ridden at an international level in his younger days.

Ben joined Synectic as a Director in 2013 to head up our audit division and our Launceston office. With almost 30 years’ experience in audit, financial reporting, superannuation and corporate advisory services, he brings a passion for client service and the benefits that come from high quality service.

Ben is a past Tasmanian Regional Chairman for CAANZ and remains heavily involved with CAANZ, participating in the development and direction of our profession. He is also an experienced board member and chairs a number of audit panels in the local government sector.

Ben sees audit as not just a compliance obligation but a valuable tool for driving optimum results. He believes in pragmatic, relevant advice that helps clients improve their operations, governance and internal controls. His enthusiasm for the benefits of audit has earned him a loyal client base and a like-minded team.

Ben enjoys time with his wife and two children, fishing, and getting back to the family farm.

Matt has a passion for helping people clearly understand their options and identify and achieve their personal, family and business goals.

He has worked in the financial services industry for over 20 years and holds the industry’s highest certification. He has been on the Top 50 Financial Advisers in Australia list seven times.

Matt was a Private Client Adviser with Shadforth Financial Group for 17 years, during which time he worked closely with Synectic as an external adviser to many of our clients. He joined Synectic in 2017 and became a director in 2018.

Matt’s qualifications in Accounting and Financial Planning position him well to work intelligently with the accountants, tax specialists and business advisers at Synectic, putting him in a great position to deliver holistic advice.

Matt enjoys spending time with his three sons and playing competitive squash.

Vaughn is an experienced Senior Manager and Business Adviser who began his career with a small local firm in 2004 and joined Synectic in 2009. He became a Principal at Synectic in 2023, acknowledging the leadrership role he plays in our business, particularly in our business services team.

A highly valued mentor, leader and adviser, Vaughn has built long-lasting relationships with team members and clients across Tasmania. With a passion for helping business owners and entrepreneurs achieve their goals, he provides comprehensive financial guidance and strategic business and tax advice, holding particular expertise in the primary production and building & construction industries.

Vaughn lives with his wife and young family on their cattle farm just outside of Devonport. Running his own agri-business, Vaughn understands the challenges many of our clients face. He also takes great pride in serving on the board of a local children’s cancer charity, allowing him to contribute to a cause he cares deeply about and reinforcing his community connection values.

Fiona joined Synectic in July 2019, following the merger of her and Wayne’s practice Kernan & Co Pty Ltd. Prior to commencing their own practice 22 years ago, Fiona worked in both large multi national and small accounting firms in Canberra, Melbourne and Launceston. Fiona has worked in business services and taxation for over 35 years. She works with many medical and allied health professionals and has an interest in primary production, having a family farm background. In her leisure time Fiona enjoys watching and playing tennis, walking and spending time at the beach with their adult children.

She enjoys spending time with her two children and working with her husband on their family farm.

Linda has over 20 years’ accounting experience, including seven years in private enterprise. She manages a diverse range of clients, including high net worth individuals and small to large enterprises, and assists in all areas of taxation, accounting and business advisory services. She prides herself on being available to support her clients whenever they need guidance and advice. Linda volunteers her time on not-for-profits’ boards and assists sporting clubs in various roles. She enjoys keeping fit and playing sport, particularly basketball, and is studying for a Graduate Diploma in Applied Tax Law with the Taxation Institute of Australia.

Gabbi started with Synectic in 2016 as an undergraduate accountant, completing her degree later that year, and the Chartered Accountants Program in 2021. She had previously gained experience in customer service, was on the Dean’s Honour Role 2014, a Member of the Golden Key Honour Society, and Student Ambassador CPA Australia. Gabbi began her career with Synectic specialising in self-managed super funds and is now an experienced accountant and business adviser, who offers invaluable support to her team.

She was drawn to this profession due to the rapport building nature of the role and the opportunities it presents to get up close and assist businesses. Sharni likes discovering Tasmania and spending time with her young family.

Mehreen has also been a teachers’ assistant, provided interpreting services to migrant students and families, and is an art lover who sketches and paints in her free time. She also loves kayaking, tennis, and spending time with family and friends (most importantly, her sisters dogs!).

Millie graduated from an Accelerated Bachelor of Business in 2021 and was admitted to the Deans Honour Roll. She came into our business services team later that year after gaining six months experience in a national firm. A high-achiever, she was awarded Synectic‘s ‘UTas Scholarship in Business’ in 2019, and has already completed the Chartered Accountants program. Millie is Treasurer and a Non-Executive Director for the Launceston Tornadoes. A bright, happy and dedicated person, she raises her hand to all opportunities. A little bit dog crazy, Millie also enjoys working on her family’s beef farm.

A competitive sprinter, she also enjoys being with friends, family and her dogs, and working on the family farm.

She is now applying those traits and her love of a face-paced workplace to her role in our accounting and advisory team. A fit and active mum, Kalila loves time with her young family, racing motorbikes and playing football.

Claire is senior executive and accountant with almost 20 years’ experience across the private and public sectors. Joining Synectic in 2021, her work history goes beyond traditional accounting and finance roles, spanning hospitality, recruitment, resource consulting, and local government.

She is a Tasmanian Divisional Councillor for CPA Australia, a graduate of the 2019 Tasmanian Leaders Program and an independent member of the Department of Treasury and Finance Audit & Risk Management Committee. Claire is also the President of the Devonport Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Chair of the Institute of Internal Auditors (Tasmanian Chapter), and a volunteer NFP board member.

Her strengths include leadership, strategy and business development, stakeholder engagement, project management, financial reporting, management accounting, and governance. She has an extensive background in risk management, quality assurance, compliance, human resources, workforce development, economic development, and digital transformation.

A foodie at heart Claire enjoys cooking up a storm, and appreciates spending time outdoors in the sun and experiencing different cultures.

PJ moved from Sydney to Tasmania to join Synectic in 2021. He has been in the financial services industry since 2014 and brings with him a range of experience gained in leading institutional super funds, boutique advisory firms, and funds management.

With a focus on delivering high quality, empathetic advice, PJ enjoys working with people to develop clear financial plans, structure assets intelligently, invest with confidence, and manage risk along the way. His areas of expertise include wealth management, superannuation, retirement planning, self-managed super funds, direct equities, structuring, and personal insurances.

PJ is driven to make a difference to people and his community. He is looking forward to embracing life in Tasmania with his young family; he may even rediscover his love of rock climbing with the famous Dolerite crags of Launceston’s Cataract Gorge on his doorstep!

She has also setup and operated two successful accounting and financial planning firms, giving her deep insight into the needs of small business operators. Pettina enjoys travel to warm destinations, time with her family and friends, Pilates, regular walks and fishing.

With a history in audit, taxation and office management, Kerrie joined Synectic’s self-managed superannuation fund team in 2010. Kerrie is passionate about helping our clients grow their funds. She manages our Hobart office and is an invaluable staff mentor, responsible for training many of our undergraduate accountants in the SMSF role. A wife and mother of four children, Kerrie is kept busy with family activities. She has spent time volunteering at her children’s school and acted as treasurer on the school committee.

Suze has a passion for design, travel and trekking, and enjoys camping and kayaking around Tasmania with her family.

Re-joining Synectic in 2016, Bianca has brought a wealth of practical administration and book-keeping experience to support our administration team. Joining us in October 2023 in our Devonport office, Kaylee brings a fresh personality and enthusiasm to our front desk. With a background in hospitality and retail, Kaylee is no stranger to delivering exceptional client service. One of the first things you‘ll notice is her infectious smile and can-do attitude. Eager to grow and develop in her new role, Kaylee is diving headfirst into a Traineeship program. Beyond her work, Kaylee’s energy and discipline show with her love of early-morning gym sessions.
