Royce and Thea Fairbrother (Fairbrother Pty Ltd)

'Synectic' is the name under which our accountants, business advisers, auditors, self managed super fund administrators and support staff come together to deliver exceptional outcomes to exceptional clients.

Synectic incorporates three divisions: AG Synectic Chartered Accountants, Synectic Audit & Assurance and Synectic Super.

The word Synectic

The word 'Synectic' can actually be found in the dictionary(!)Its literal meaning refers to the connection of creative ideas from diverse individuals to produce common outcomes; the application of lateral thinking and dynamic skills and resources, with the end aim of solving practical problems.

What it means to us

For us 'Synectic' means that we combine our skills, experience, backgrounds, personalities and resources to produce creative yet consistent solutions to the practical challenges that our clients encounter.

What it means for you

  • You have access to a dynamic group of professionals - Each of us is an expert in our field, so you deal with specialists not generalists, but benefit from our combined efforts.
  • You have a relationship with us - You have direct access to all the people working for you, including senior management and directors, so we get to know your needs and you get to know the people dealing with your affairs. A client manager works along side you and guides the team to ensure a shared understanding of your needs.
  • You see exceptional outcomes - We invest heavily in our people, resources and systems so we can offer efficiencies and technical competencies second to none. At the same time, our size and client focus ensure we remain flexible to deliver outcomes that are tailored, practical and have a balance of creative and technical input.

"Synectic has met all of our personal and professional accounting needs for the past 35 years. We congratulate the partners of Synectic on their initiative in extending their business capacity to cater for rapid changes in client requirements."

Our History

Synectic was formed from the restructure of Atkinson Gibson in June 2005. The firm traces its origins to the merger of BM Cocker & Atkinson with Maggs Shearer & Brownrigg in 1979; indeed our history in the Devonport region reaches back to the 1930s.

Proudly Tasmanian, Synectic has very much inherited the traditions and history of the accounting profession handed down from those firms. However, Synectic is not your traditional accounting firm.

Our industry has seen huge changes over the last two decades, as have the needs and expectations of our clients. The Synectic team reflect these changes in the way we present ourselves, in the quality and range of our services and in the relationship we maintain with our clients.

In July 2005 Gareth Atkins joined Robert Atkinson as an equal shareholder and director of the Synectic Group. Together they focused on providing comprehensive advice and a range of integrated financial services to meet our clients needs.

Through consitstent growth and responsiveness to market needs, the Synectic Group now incorporates AG Synectic (tax, accounting, business advisory and family wealth management specialists), Synectic Audit & Assurance (audit specialists) and Synectic Super (self managed super fund specialists).

In April 2011 , with Rob stepping back from directorship and taking on a senior adviser and consultant role, Yvonne Rundle has joined Gareth as a director and joint owner of Synectic.

Together they will continue to advance the firm with an inspired, creative and determined team.

"The partners of Synectic are trying to run a business efficiently and properly. We are doing the same thing so we work well together."
